How Postgres Got Its Groove Back
How a 25 Year Old Database Became The Next Big Thing
For a long time, Postgres has been the best kept secret of smart DBAs. Lately, it's become well-known that "all the cool kids" are using Postgres. In a recent Ruby on Rails community survey, more developers preferred Postgres in production to MySQL; Django's founder, Jacob Kaplan-Moss, has said given the option he'd only support Postgres.
What were the forces that helped bring Postgres into the spotlight? Why are people switching to Postgres in droves (and where are they going when they don't?) In this talk, we'll look back over some of the history of the database world, who the competitors are (and where they're at), and talk about what's coming up for Postgres and what awesome projects are going on in the community to help drive the next 25 years of development.
