Bacula and ZFS
Great tools for use with PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL works well in conjunction with many tools, ZFS and Bacula not being the least of them.
Dan Langille has been using PostgreSQL since 2000, ZFS since 2010, and Bacula since 2004.
ZFS has great flexibility and a fantastic reputation for both robustness and reliability.
Dan will describe how he uses ZFS to host his PostgreSQL installations and the various options available.
His backups are done via Bacula and sometimes a combination of ZFS send and receive, so that remote files are replicated locally and then backed up. This has the small footprint of rsync, but the added benefits of ZFS.
This will include an overview of the ZFS filesystem, covering zpools and snapshots & rollbacks.
The Bacula suite of programs will also be covered.
The attendee will come away with familiarity of both Bacula and ZFS and how to start using them in their environments.
