Schedule - PGCon 2023

Running a Community Conference: It’s Showtime!

Date: 2023-06-01
Time: 13:00–13:45
Room: DMS 1140
Level: Beginner

The United States PostgreSQL Association (PgUS) has provided technical and financial support for  volunteers to run a variety of community events since 2009, such as PostgresOpen, PGConf.NYC, PGDay Austin, PDXPUG PGDay, PGDay San Francisco, and PGDayChicago.

PgUS relies on volunteers (like you!) to make the conferences happen, from the suggestion of the city and date, to the selection of the venue, and, of course, the actual work to put together and run the event.

We will talk about what we do from start to finish.  There will be obvious topics: finding an event space, choosing a date, securing a room block at a hotel, marketing the event, selecting speakers, finding sponsors, and planning social events.

There are also less-visible steps, such as planning timelines, dealing with contracts, speaker appreciation gifts, room monitoring, recruiting volunteers, and other work that occurs behind the scenes.

Please come to share experiences as an organizer, attendee, or volunteer, and learn where you can help with community events!
